The Choir of Christ Church is a talented group of parishioners and community members who offer their musical abilities to the glory of God. The Choir performs most every Sunday as part of the 10:00 a.m. worship, sharing an eclectic blend of Jazz, Gospel, Classical, Contemporary, and many other favorite hymns. The Christ Church music program is under the direction of organist and Choir director, Betty Belcher (who began her ministry of music here, as an organist, when she was just thirteen-years-old). The Altar Guild is dedicated to the spiritual service of cherishing, protecting and preparing the Lord's Table and the Sanctuary for worship. The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation of the Sanctuary for regularly scheduled worship, baptisms, weddings and funerals; as well as the events surrounding the liturgical seasons of the year; and episcopal visitations. In addition, the Guild ministers to shut-ins, the sick and those in need of comfort when they deliver altar flowers. The Altar Guild receives donations for vigil lights and flower memorials to carry out their work for the Church. 2009 was the 12th year the Altar Guild has sponsored Pennies for Heaven, an outreach campaign that donates food to the Norwalk Emergency Shelter. For 2009, the Guild received donations in excess of $700.00 all pocket change from parishioners. Ministering as part of the Altar Guild involves a commitment to the Vicar and the parish family to assist in the preparations for the worship of the Church. The Christ Church ushers often create the first impression of the character of our congregation. Their warm greeting and pleasant smile helps folks feel welcome. Ushers try to keep things running smoothly, but can quickly solve most issues discretely. If there is a way that the ushers can be of assistance to you please let one of them know. Women's Group The mission of the Episcopal Women in the Diocese of Connecticut is "to be an intregal part of the total life of the parish as it supports and promotes the work of our Lord, Jesus Christ..." The Christ Church Women's Group (18 devoted members) fulfills that purpose. They are behind the scenes organizing, setting up, and cleaning up at virtually every church event, from the Annual Meeting in January to the Christmas Coffee Hour in December. Oftentimes, they provide sandwiches and desserts for these functions. The Women's Group raises money through dues, bake sales and other fundraidraising events so that they can make contributions to charities, to the church, and send cards to parishioners who are ill or who have moved away. The Women's group meets the first Sunday of the month, following the 10 o'clock worship service. New members are welcome! |
